Touring Arlington

N.M.B.I touring Arlington National Cemetery

Good morning Washington, D.C.

Our first full day in Washington is off to a good start.  Everyone was up early and loaded on the buses by 7:00.  The first stop of the day is Arlington National Cemetery.  The weather forecast looks great and ideal for the tour.

National Museum of the Marine Corps

Did you know that United States Marine Corps was created before the United States was even a country?  The U.S.M.C was founded in 1775 and helped defend the country during the American Revolution.
We learned this and a whole lot more when we toured the museum.  The museum staff was extremely helpful. They helped me capture a picture of the hidden scene found in a tribute to the Marines who fought at Iwo Jima during WWII.  Look closely at the second picture. Can you see the hidden image?

Have it your way!

We just stopped for lunch with 5 buses of fifth graders!  Some of us "had it our way" while others had to wait.  Our 45 minute lunch has turned into a lunch hour.  The restaurants could not keep up with our immediate demand.
Everyone is full and ready for our tour of the National Museum of the Marine Corps later this afternoon.

Time for a Pit Stop

We just finished our first restroom stop. It was a success! Everyone was back on the bus in record time.  While surveying the area I was able to speak to a few teachers about their experience so far. You can see their responses below.

On the road

Close to the end

I can't believe this school year is almost over!  My class and I have worked hard and learned a lot this year. We have curiously combed through every fifth grade standard using every strategy we know and we even invented some new learning devices along the way.
I always look forward to this time of year because P.A.S.S is behind us and test anxiety has left the building.  We can now reap the benefits of our hard work with events like B.O.B (Books on the Beach), Fine Arts Day, Field Day and the Fifth grade trip to Washington, D.C. before we say goodbye to the 2012-13 school year.
